Inclusive Art Think Tanks

Though Irregular Arts Schools is focussed on the local landscape of inclusive art and social care in the Leeds City Region, we want to connect with other inclusive arts organisations and professionals to see how our research resonates nationally.

During two online workshops we are sharing our research and emerging findings, as well as inviting inclusive arts organisations who specialise in visual art studio settings to discuss and share their own practice as facilitators and supporters with an aim to network, to identify common challenges and celebrate and share successes.

By doing this we hope to draw our research into a national context and generate insights and impacts that we as a group can use to advocate and lobby for change.

Workshop 1: 20th June 2022

During the first workshop, the Irregular Art Schools teamed introduced the research and work completed so far. We then invited each participant to present a ‘2-minute taster’ of an interesting example of how they/their organisations have supported professional development of learning disabled artists. As participants presented, the rest of the cohort used Jamboard to record common ideas or approaches. After the break, participants were then split into breakout groups to discuss the following questions:

1. Challenges of facilitating professional development of learning disabled artists?

2. New directions? Where do we need to go next as a sector? What do we need?

Workshop 2 will run Spring 2023. Check back for updates.
