Inclusive Art for Wicked Problems

We are currently working on a 4-year project called Inclusive Art For Wicked Problems. It’s all about asking big questions about the systems that affect our lives using our arts practice. This includes:

• Training Irregular Art School members in Systemic Action Research (SAR) using inclusive arts approaches.

• Developing our approach internationally and cross-culturally through a partnership with collaborators in Brazil by setting up an inclusive arts studio with the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art.

• Each member of our team leads their own mini research project, bringing in their expertise, priorities and networks.

• Connecting the range of mini projects together with each other, and then to formal decision makers to create real life change.

The Big Picture

We have made a systems map to show the ‘big picture’ of our research. This picture shows all our research projects and how they connect and influence each other.

• The blue shapes show research questions being explored by individual members of the team, based on their skills, experience, or personal perspectives.

• The circles show shared research questions—things we’re exploring together as a group, bringing different viewpoints into the same conversation.

• Instead of keeping these questions separate, we’re looking at how they connect, overlap, and inform one another.
